Scheduling & cost

Getting us out and what it costs

How soon can you repair my AC?

Most Newark calls get a same-day or next-day appointment. During heat waves we triage no-cooling emergencies first, so calling early in the day gives you the best chance at a same-day slot. We’re open Monday through Friday 7am–7pm and Saturday 8am–5pm, with an emergency line on Sundays.

Do you charge a diagnostic fee?

Yes, there’s a flat diagnostic fee to send a licensed tech out, inspect the system properly and test components. We tell you the fee up front when you book, no surprises. That visit buys you a real diagnosis and a firm repair quote, not a guess over the phone.

How much does a typical AC repair cost?

It depends entirely on the fault. A capacitor replacement is a modest, common fix; a compressor or major refrigerant-leak repair costs considerably more. Most everyday repairs land in the low-to-mid hundreds. We give you a flat, upfront price after diagnosis, before any work, so you’re never surprised. Our cost guide breaks down real ranges.

Do you offer free estimates?

For repairs, a proper diagnosis requires hands on the equipment, so that’s covered by the diagnostic fee. For full system replacements, we provide a free, no-obligation estimate. Either way, you’ll know the price before we start.

Repair or replace

Fixing it vs. starting over

Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?

Weigh three things: the unit’s age, the cost of the repair and how reliable it’s been. A common guideline is to multiply the repair cost by the unit’s age, if that number gets high and the system is past 10–12 years, replacement starts to make sense. Under that, a repair is usually the smart money. We’ll lay out the honest math for your specific unit.

How long does a central AC system last?

Typically 12–15 years in our climate, sometimes more with good maintenance. The difference between a unit that dies at 10 and one that runs strong at 16 is almost always regular service and prompt repairs. Mini-splits often last a similar span.

Is it worth repairing an older unit?

Often, yes, especially for a small repair on a system that’s otherwise running fine. Where it gets tricky is older units that use phased-out refrigerant (R-22), where a major refrigerant repair can be expensive. We’ll tell you when you’re better off putting the money toward a new system instead.

Common problems

What’s going on with my system

Why is my AC running but not cooling?

The usual suspects are a dirty air filter, low refrigerant from a leak, a frozen evaporator coil, a dirty outdoor coil or a failing compressor. Start by checking the filter and thermostat, then give us a call, we walk through the full list in this guide.

Why is ice forming on my AC?

Ice almost always means one of two things: airflow is being starved (dirty filter or blower issue) or refrigerant is low. Turn the system off so it can thaw and call us, running it while frozen can damage the compressor.

Is low refrigerant just a “top-off” job?

No, and be cautious of anyone who treats it that way. AC systems are sealed; if refrigerant is low, there’s a leak. Just adding more without finding and fixing the leak means you’ll be paying for it again soon, and it’s bad for the environment. We locate the leak, repair it, then recharge.

How often should I service my AC?

Once a year, ideally in spring before the cooling season, is the sweet spot for most systems. Heat pumps that also heat benefit from a second check in fall. Regular service catches small problems early and keeps efficiency up, see our maintenance checklist.
